The Senior Resource Center oversees five meal sites throughout Sawyer County. They are located in the towns of Hayward, Exeland, Spider Lake, Stone Lake and Winter.
What is it?
Senior Nutrition Programs provide congregate (served on site) and home-delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), which allow individuals to remain healthy, active and independent in their communities and homes.
When is it?
Homemade Meals are served Monday through Friday at noon at the sites in Hayward, Exeland, Stone Lake and Winter. Spider Lake serves Mondays and Thursdays at noon. Meals for eligible home bound individuals are delivered to their home on the same schedule.
What does it cost?
The cost for those 60+ is a suggested donation of $4.00. For those who are under age 60, there is a charge of $8.00 to cover the full cost of the meal. The Federal Older Americans Act, the USDA and donations also fund this service.
Are rides available?
Bus transportation is available Monday-Friday, within a 5 mile radius of Hayward. The bus is handicap assessable and provides rides for people 5 5+ or disabled. A discount is available for those who qualify. Request an application from the driver or the Senior Resource Center. Please call at least 24 hours in advance for a ride, 715-634-3000.
How do I sign up?
Reservations for meals are needed at least one day in advance and are made by calling the nutrition center nearest your home.
How do I volunteer?
The nutrition sites are always in need of volunteers as site workers and Meals on Wheels delivery drivers. Please call the Senior Resource Center office for information or your local nutrition site manager about volunteer opportunities.
